Daily Transformation by Sam Follet j516.com
Part of Philter48 will be to feature articles we have read else where that pertain to walking in the Truth of Christ.
Nathan and Sam at www.j516.com have started an online ministry geared torwards men and accountability, centered on the verse: James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Last week Same Follet posted and article about the Daily transformation we must make as followers of Christ. With their permission I have reposted it here in the Mens Topics.
In Christian circles, when we hear the word transformation it is so often linked to a conversion or a huge, one-off moment in our Christian life. It is great to see someone meet with God and have their whole perspective on a certain situation, or just life in general, totally turned around. It’s wonderful to see someone experience, or indeed to experience yourself, a moment where God changes them, grows them, nurtures them... transforms them!
Without a doubt, when we give our life to Jesus and welcome His Spirit into our hearts, we undergo a transformation. Our old life is gone and we begin something new with Christ, a new life where all of our wrongdoing is covered by the blood of The Lamb. Some people have more obvious changes than others, it has to be said, but the change is definitely there whether you’re the Apostle Paul (which, by the way, you’re not!) in Acts 9 where he has a massive transformation on the road to Damascus, or like J John (who if you are I’m very happy that you’re reading my article!) who just started to notice different things after he gave his life to Jesus.
But sometimes I wonder if we place so much emphasis on the changes at the point of conversion, and at other moments where God grows us in an especially big way, that we forget that God wants us to be growing
daily
.
Yes, we do have big points along our life-timeline where God will do particularly significant things for us that drastically change us; however, we are not perfect! None of us, even Nathan, live up to God’s high high
high
standard, so there is always room for improvement. There are always ways that God can, and wants, to grow us.
But change... We don’t really like it, do we? Change brings us into the unknown and even though where we are now is not necessarily the best place we could be, at least we know we can handle it. We’re comfortable with where we are and change requires us to give up that comfort. But who ever said that being a Christian was easy and all about being comfy? Not Jesus, for sure. And, of course, we can put our trust in God that He is growing us for the better and even when the going gets tough, He is there helping us through.
One of my favourite passages that I have highlighted in my last couple of Bibles is this:
1 Samuel 10:6 NLT At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.
This verse not only comes from the book of the Bible with the coolest name on Earth, but has also really spoken into my life regarding transformation through the power of the Holy Spirit. Just thought I’d throw it in because I like it :)
So really, what I want to do at this point is challenge you all with something I have been trying recently and have been finding very rewarding. When you have your quiet time, or regular private prayer moment, just spend some time firstly asking God to send His Holy Spirit to come and change you within. Let His Spirit wash over you. Also, invite God, give Him permission, to come and work in your life today. Ask Him to continually change you, grow and develop the man of God that you are. Ask Him for daily transformation.
