HE knows our name!
Isaiah 45:4 "And why have I called you for this work? It is for the sake of Jacob my servant, Israel my chosen one. I called you by name when you did not know me. " (NLT)
Today a rather tough street kid (who rides my bus), brought this verse home to me. Simple and yet profound! The Creator of the universe, the Creator of you and me, knows our name. Let that sit on you even for a second, and see the difference it will make in a day.
This morning was like no other morning, driving my high school kids to school. I have a habit of saying to them each morning, "have a nice day". But today I was moved to call them by their names as they left the bus. One in particular is rather tough, and has not ever given me a problem. As he passed me , I said "Good morning Brandon, Hope you have a good day". He stopped and looked at me and was just delighted! He asked me "did you just say my name?" "You know my name?" and it thrilled him! Apparently his name is only used when he is in trouble, and he left me with a bounce in his step, and commented to another kid, "she knows my name, how cool is that? no one knows my name, its more like hey kid whats your name, go to the office".
After I left the high school, I could not help but repent. God knows my name! In all the chaos a day can bring, and in the middle of taking care of children, at the grocery store, and shopping where I blend in pretty well, GOD , the Almighty GOD..knows my name! while pondering on that this morning, I realized how I should have that bounce in my step, and I should be thrilled! So often we end up labeled-someones wife, someones mom, my bus number, my social security number..its nice to be called by name.
Our Creator , King, LORD, has not only redeemed, and forgiven us, but HE knows our name. I am not as impressed as some that HE knows how many hairs are on my head (although HE does), I would not know if the number was correct or not. But my name...in a bzillion people all over the planet...we are not just another spec of dust, we are called by name. HE never says "well look at that one", "i would like her to do this or that". HE is much more personal.
My prayer for me and for you is that we would really know what that means that HE knows our name. HE calls us, HE has a plan for us. And no matter how the day goes, or the evening turns out, Our loving Father, KING, Creator knows our name! rejoice in it!!
