CHANGES CHANGES

This is a quick post to inform everyone of a change here at Philter48.

The blogging software that I use here is not very good, and one of the biggest issues is that for some reason not everyone can leave comments.  One of the main reason for Philter48 is to have that interaction and discussion.

So this will be the last post on this blog.  From here on out go here:

http://philter48.wordpress.com/

All new posts will be posted there.  The old blog will remain active for now, but comments will be turned off.

Peace an love to all.

Carl.

Among the Pagans...

We don’t always have to preach, and pull out bible verses to tell the truth fo Christ.  Sometimes we just have to show up at the right time.  Offer a word of encouragement.  Listen when a person is down.  Offer a prayer when it is needed.  A hug to show love.  It is the little things that we do that will plant the little seeds, that with time and prayer, we hope Christ roots into the heart.

Stop, in the name of LOVE

GOD is LOVE, at the same time GOD is GOD! HE has provided some warnings for us to heed. The goodnews is HE has provided for us to be overcomers. As I write tonight, and work through some of this myself, trembling in the presence of our Holy GOD is good for me, it helps the perspective of who HE is, and that our very breath we take for granted is a gift from HIM.

Blogged Bible Study

Time to start up the Blogged Bible Study again.  The goal is to include as many bloggers as possible.  We would all post on a particular topic on assigned days. Each blogger could add a page or link to a page here on Philter48 with links to the blogs on the assigned day.  Diagrammed out a bit…

TOPIC FOR WEEK 1 IS “Who is God?”

Day 1:  Blogger X , Blogger Y,

Day 2:  Blogger B,  Blogger D

And so on for the week for any given topic,  or for how ever many bloggers get involved.  We will have a new topic or chapter each week.

This will give every blogger a chance to study God’s word on a certain topic and post what they learn.   I would like to keep the actual blog posting limited to believers in Christ, but non believers would be free to comment and participate in the discussions that follow the post.

If you are not a Blogger and would like to start this would be a great way to get started, or maybe even just to be a guest blogger on a given topic.

There are already a few committed to this study,  is there anyone else interested in joining this study?

Please leave me comments and suggestions.

Watch Out For That Plank!

Hey this is Carl.

First I want to say, I am so glad Joe McBee is back to his roots at  The Peregrin Pages  I only know Joe online from blogging and face book.  If I read him right he has a heart for the Lord, and loves his family dearly.  You can read more about him by clicking the about link above.

Joe writes from that heart, and doesn’t pull punches.  Please make sure to check his writing out.  You won't be disappointed

Why  am I reposting from his personal blog? Because what he wrote  is the heart of what Philter48 is about.  Real people dealing with real life, dealing with the garbage we create, by using the Truth of Christ as our filter.

Seeking Understanding

In our modern day technologies, we can seek understanding on most anything. It even seems at times to be an endless supply of knowledge, so we take it in and hope for the mastery that comes from that knowledge/understanding. We want to understand how things work, why things happen, and how we can make a difference or change, but it all falls under our own understanding of whatever we are seeking.

Worship in Hope.

Mandy Tompson posted some questions about worship music.  My main response came from this post on worship.

Worship is not about us.  Worship is about the hope God gives us, and the praise we sing to him about the things he has done for us.

Take a listen to this hymn sung by Johnny Cash.   Where the Soul of Man never dies.

What do you hear?  What does this old hymn point us two?

To Canaan’s land, I’m on my way,
Where the soul of man never dies.
My darkest night will turn to day,
Where the soul of man never dies. (Where the soul of a man never dies.)

I trusted..I loved.

Mark 9:37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

It is obvious that Jesus loved the children that were around him during his ministry. I have to believe that he laughed with them as they played, and comforted them when they cried. How cool would it have been to be a kid back then and to run to Jesus with a scrapped knee, only to have him cradle you in his arms, cup your knee in his hand….And yep you guessed it Boo Boo gone.  Jesus knew that is was only through their innocence that trust can be built, and through that trust faith can be rooted deep in the heart.

Are you brokenhearted?

We all suffer at times. Sometimes our hearts are broke in a million pieces, and hopelessness sets in.  Wondering...how will we ever put it all back together the way it was? We won't. But God will put it back together, but not the same as it was, better!

Safe? Safe place?

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

One of my most favorite worship songs is Strong Tower-Kutless, often times visualizing God as the place of refuge when the world is overbearing. Remembering that Hebrews 11 tells us that faith credits us righteousness. But safe? We are safe in HIM, just not the usage of the word that we have grown accustomed to... People still die, and love HIM very much. We still encounter pain, both physically and emotionally. But we are still safe in HIM. How can I say that?

The Seed of Bitterness

Struggling many times with disappointment and wondering how it turns into anger and bitterness. It seems without much warning the whole world can turn upside down within my heart. WOW! what or how did that happen. God is always awesome to lead me to something that shines a light on my heart..this week HE led me to http://www.lynseleanne.com/blog/2009/07/09/thoughts-on-authenticity/, if you get a chance to read this, i am thinking her questions will do a work in your heart as well...

Devotional Thoughts And Prayers.

The morning devotionals are provided as a daily filter for your day.   We would like you to leave your thoughts and prayers as you read through them.   So please use the comments section below this post to leave your thoughts.  It will become a running list of thoughts and prayers of things that Phil 4:8 points us to.

Do Not Harden Your Heart...Whatever

Today in my quiet time , I read this not for the first time, but anew. Psalm 95: 7-11, and landed for a while on the end of 7 and verse 8- "Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in Meribah, and as you did at Massah in the desert,"

The Bible: Tool or Weapon?

Many Christians have come to think that the bible is like everything else in their life.

Our best is imperfect.

We long and desire for what we can not have.  We look for ways to heal the hurts.  We hear over and over it is up to us to make this life better.  We must do our best to get what we so desire now.  Yet when we think we have it all together that is when our heart hurts the most.  All the effort we put in never fills the holes of our imperfect heart.  We come face to face with our imperfection when we sin.

Love replaces sin

For the past few weeks there is an ongoing theme raging.  Can the world truly understand what it means to love more deeply?   What will it take to make the world understand the need to love more deeply through actions and not words.  To learn to filter actions through love, and not hate.  Love and not selfishness.

Love more deeply.

Loving another more deeply is harder than most people think, but it is what we are commanded to do by Christ.   Loving deeply is what he modeled for us through his ministry.

His Bride!

Have you ever completed a book with the words, "I need to buy a copy for everyone I know?"

Live Blog Tuesday 9:15pm -- Who did Jesus came to save?

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah gives us a picture of who God indented to save when He sent His Son to save us. Join me live tomorrow night, to talk about who Christ came to save.

When desire intersects imperfection.

Getting to the heart of the matter.

Our heart is our identity to God.  To Him it reveals everything about us.  Many thoughts go through our head but our heart is the key to how God views our faith and attitude towards him.  So don't you think it is time to get to the heart of the matter?

Two Question Tuesday

Every Tuesday we are going to post two questions for discussion.   Comments are moderated so we will do our best to get them authorized as quickly as possible.

Affect The Noise 2: 40 Verses.

Don't think you have the power to affect the information flow going out to the world?   Here a second challenge for everyone to affect the information in the lives of 40 people.

Get Involved...Build a Community

Philter48 is a ministry about building a community, and we need you to help.  There are four ways to get involved and help build the content of this site, so others can see the effects of Christ in the lives of his followers.

Affect the Noise, The 40 prayer Challenge.

Don't think you have the power to affect the information flow going out to the world?  Here is a way/challenge for you to affect the information in the lives of 40 people.

Agree to Disagree

After many years of study and prayer, I have left the institutional church for a more spirit-led, non-hierarchical way to be the Body of Christ (His Church).  I wanted to share one thing this has taught me?

What if they lose?

As I minister to different individuals I often wonder what is the point. In the world full of garbage I worry that I am not being effective with God's truth. Then I remember that I am commanded to spread the good news. Mark 16:15-16 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. It is not up to me to be effective, I must plant the seed, and if the person fertile ground the Holy Spirit will take over.

After all, What if they lose?

Losing the awe and wonder of a Child of God.

Have we stopped being children when it comes to belief in God?  Have we stopped looking to Him with a childs eye of awe and wonder?  The garbage of this word is consuming our thoughts, and takes our mind off being a child of God.

Three Monkeys

As a follow up to last nights live blog.  Philter48 thought this post would be a good quick read.  Plus it will help point out how and why we ad noise to our life.

How do you feel about this statistic?

No commentary.  Just wanted to get your input.

The ways of the world fail to heal a broken heart.

Tomorrow, Good Friday we remember why Christ came to this world.   This world leaves our hearts broken and torn as we fail to find meaning.  The hand of God is reaching out on the Cross to heal our failing hearts.

Fight night?

Jerry James took a right to the chops for Jesus the other night.

Four ways to get involved.

Philter48 is a ministry about you.  Four ways to get involved and help build the content of this site, so other can see the effects of Christ in the lives of his followers.

Knowing from a Biblical Worldview

“Every Christian should know a little bit about almost everything; some Christians should also know a lot about many things; others should strive to know all there is to know about a very few things.”  James Sire from Discipleship of the Mind, page 137.

Whatever is lovely

The Truth of the greatest command,  is the Truth of God that drives the core of  faith in His Son.  Beliveing that God's Truth and only His Truth is best spread by finding the ways to think of our actions in regards to love, and the example set by Christ. Then loving someone in the same way.

Why did I do that again?

Recidivism: is the rate at which ex-convicts become convicts all over again.

Separating faith(church) and religion(state).

Can a man separate his religion/faith from his life? Nowhere is this issue more prevalent than in the debate of the 1st Amendment in the Constitution of the United States of America. However the 1st amendment is just an illustration of the problem with man mad ideals. The use of religion to mean faith is another.

It all boils down to a choice.

Last week we had 4 posts on the choices made everyday.   Pure Choices, choosing to accept talent from GodR-Rated movies or not, and Questions about everyday content that we allow into our mind.  With all of these it comes down to one choice...

Questions, and More Questions???

I have been on a diet the last couple months taking in healthy food and exercise.  I have had great results.  So I am curious.  I was wondering what it would be like to try and go on a healthy cultural diet.

Should Christians watch R rated movies

Philter48 is pleased to introduce you to Joe McBee.  He is a brother in Christ and has been writing on his personal blog for awile.  He has a tremedous heart for God.  What follows is the first post  Carl ever read by Him.  We can think of no better way to introduce him to you than by how we were introduce to him.

An R-rated motion picture, in the view of the Rating Board, contains some adult material. An R-rated motion picture may include adult themes, adult activity, hard language, intense or persistent violence, sexually-oriented nudity, drug abuse or other elements, so that parents are counseled to take this rating very seriously. Children under 17 are not allowed to attend R-rated motion pictures unaccompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Parents are strongly urged to find out more about R-rated motion pictures in determining their suitability for their children. Generally, it is not appropriate for parents to bring their young children with them to R-rated motion pictures.

Jacob Tamme knows where his talents come from.

Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge University Of Kentucky fan when it comes to sports.  So this video is a wonderful find.  Jacob Tamme was and is one of my favorite players.  When I saw this video and his testimony for Christ, I had to share it.   He made the choices to stay connected to Christ, and reconizes the need for daily sacrifice.    Enjoy.

What ever is pure through choices made.

In Phil 4:8 we are called to think on things that are pure.  We make choices for purity every day. The choices we make will lead to obedience of the word of God, or we will be subject to God’s wrath. Ephesians gives us a guide line for what is pure.

What does it "means"?

I personally am not a big fan of technology and the internet.  I struggle sometimes if I am even doing the right thing by embracing it.

Where does our hope come from?

After Brian's article on The American Dream, I started thinking about Hope, and what it means.  What builds hope, and where does it come from?

Have we gotten to the point where we put our hope in to much stuff that is of this world?  Man made ideals and platitudes rule the day.  Promises are made to be broken, and we continue to believe the promises broken.  Where does it end?  Where does our hope come from.

God tells us what is "Right" about the Marriage Covenant.

Men in the marriage covenant have a huge responsibility when it comes to leading their wives. And it is “right” that men take on this responsibility.

What ever is True: Phil 4:8 - Part 4

Pride takes us on a progression through a set of stages that leads us to accept worldly influences as true.

The American Dream

I have heard this term being thrown around a lot lately since the economy has been tanking. I hear it, but what does it mean? I think it is another term in our culture that has evolved over the years.

What ever is True: Phil 4:8 - Part 3

Part 3 continues from the question:  Is there something or someone that is absolute from the beginning?  Yes, there is.

Where do you stop for directions?

Most everywhere I turn I see either an advertisment for a GPS system, either already built into cars or for purchase as a handheld. I remember when cars had a built in compass, how cool was that?

What ever is True: Phil 4:8 - Part 2

The choices we make affect the perception of our understanding of truth.  As we let more and more garbage or untruths into our lives our perceptions of what is true changes. The statement “You are rich.”  Can have many truths based on the perception of the person hearing the statement, and what has influenced their perception.  Rich in family and friends, mean something completely different than rich in money.

Ephesians: It is Noble to stand for the perfection we are meant for.

This site is centered around Paul's letter to the Philippians, especially Phil 4:8.  However like all of Pauls writings there are many common threads and topics in his letters to the church.   Today will begin a regular series on Ephesians and the links to Philippians centered around Phil 4:8.

Do you have a story to tell?

Want to help others live a life according the to the Truth of Christ and His word?  Come share your story in the Philter48 converstions forums.   Your story is the evidence of the impact of Christ's truth on the world.

What ever is True: Phil 4:8 - Part 1

In todays world we are bombarded by so many things that profess to be truth.  There is only one source of truth that has and will stand the test of eternity.  In the first of this four part series we explore this Truth.

New beginnings...

7 represents completeness in scripture, but when you add 1 more to it you get 8…
